Charlie Fellowes
TRAINER

Charlie Fellowes is a multiple Royal Ascot-winning trainer based in the historic racing town of Newmarket. Since taking out a trainer’s license in 2014, Charlie has consistently been sending out winners, and his roll of honour includes valuable triumphs in the UK, France, Dubai, Saudi Arabia, USA and Australia.
Charlie’s passion for racing began at an early age, and he was determined to pursue a career as a trainer. Before starting out on his own, he gained invaluable experience working for some of the biggest names in the industry, including James Fanshawe, Nicky Henderson and Australian-based Lee Freedman. Armed with this experience, Charlie was granted his training licence and began his career at Saffron House Stables on Hamilton Road in Newmarket before later moving to St Gatien Stables.
As the business continued to grow, Charlie relocated the operation to Bedford House Stables on Bury Road in 2019. The move to the historic yard marked a new chapter for the team, and the stable has enjoyed significant success since establishing itself there.

The team recorded their best-ever year in 2023, building on the steady progress made in previous seasons. In 2022, Charlie achieved a personal milestone when the yard earned £680,988 in domestic prize money — the highest seasonal total of his career at that time. That same season also delivered an important breakthrough at Pattern level when Marbaan landed the Group 2 Vintage Stakes at Glorious Goodwood, providing Charlie with his first domestic Group 2 victory.
Charlie has also enjoyed remarkable success internationally with Prince Of Arran, who became a global star with three consecutive placed performances in the Melbourne Cup, an achievement that no other trainer has achieved to date.
Royal Ascot has been another happy hunting ground for the yard. Charlie recorded his first winner at the prestigious meeting in 2019 when Thanks Be landed the Sandringham Stakes. He followed that success the next year with a memorable double, as the talented mare Onassis secured back-to-back victories in the Sandringham Stakes before Chiefofchiefs added further success in the Wokingham Stakes.
Charlie has also enjoyed major victories across Europe, including a landmark Classic performance when Shes Perfect was first past the post in the prestigious Poule d’Essai des Pouliches at Longchamp. Her performance was a defining moment for her owners and the team back home. With that Group 1 success already on her résumé, there’s plenty of anticipation about what she could achieve in 2026 as she returns with big targets firmly in sight.
Another star performer from the Bedford House yard was Luther, who added international achievements with a standout campaign in the United States. Finishing third in the Grade 1 Belmont Derby Invitational Stakes and then going on to win the Grade 2 National Museum of Racing Hall of Fame Stakes.
