Unfinished Business at the Shergar Cup

Last week ended in encouraging fashion when CHIEFOFCHIEFS fulfilled the promise he has been showing on the gallops by producing a fantastic run, finishing third on debut at Newmarket. It looks like he is going to be one to look forward to for the rest of the year.   This week we have got runners on Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday with CAROLINAE opening up proceedings at Yarmouth on Wednesday. I pulled her out because of quick ground last week and once again this could be a concern, however if I do decide it is safe enough for her to line up then she is definitely one to watch as I be...

Runners this Week

Things have been pretty quiet in the yard recently however we were all delighted to see TWIN POINT finally make it back to the racetrack after several encouraging performances through last winter – given a fantastic ride by Stevie Donohoe TWIN POINT finished a very respectable second behind a very unexposed three year old. Owned by Fred and Sally Perry, we are looking forward to a productive second half of the season with this good looking son of INVINCIBLE SPIRIT.   Tomorrow we have a couple of runners at Newmarket’s July course, including the long awaited debut of CHIEFOFCHIEFS. Out of ...

Winning Ways From Danehill Dancer Fillies

After a period with very few runners since Royal Ascot things have really started to hot up again. Yesterday we celebrated our 15th winner of the season which means that after just half the season we have already surpassed our total winners tally for the whole of last year.   Mia Tesoro made it two wins from two starts for the stable at Doncaster on Thursday evening, it has been an absolute pleasure to train for Mr Pearson and I’m delighted that this beautifully bred filly has shown so much improvement. It was in fact the second part of a double as ZAIN ARION won at Yarmouth the day before ...

Endless Acres Heads To Doncaster

After a very quiet week on the racetrack we have one runner tomorrow at Doncaster. ENDLESS ACRES could not have put in a more promising performance first time out at Windsor where he finished an eye catching second over ten furlongs on soft ground.   The race tomorrow looks just as competitive but he will love the step up in trip and he has soft ground again which will definitely be in his favour. We hope he can show us more of the promise that we witnessed at Windsor.   Good luck to all of the Saffron House Stables Partnership who own him!   Charlie Fellowes is a Racehorse Trainer based in...

A Strike Rate to Write Home About - CF Racing Highest Percentage in the Country!

We're having a marvellous time here at St Gatien Stables - and we've got the stats to prove it!!   Of all the racing yards included in the top 100 trainers of Britain, that have had more than ten runners this year, Charlie Fellowes Racing has the highest percentage strike rate of anyone in the country. We currently have a record of 27% winners to runners and we aim to keep up the good work.   I'm hugely proud of my team, my horses and the results we have achieved to date - so I'm shouting it from the rooftops on this occasion. My team in particular, really are testament to this fantastic str...

Royal Ascot Hopes and Dreams

Well it has been a pretty special week so far and hopefully we can cap it off with a Royal Ascot winner on Friday or Saturday. Yesterday was one of those surreal days that will live long in the memory - to be invited by the Queen to join her for lunch at Windsor castle, and then to join her in the royal procession, was a privilege I could only have dreamed of.   There is no harder place than Royal Ascot to have a winner but after five years with James Fanshawe and his incredible record at the track, there is no greater place I yearn to have a winner.   On Friday HIGH ON LOVE runs in the Al...

A Busy Week Ahead

The summer has well and truly arrived and the warm weather has brought the horses on no end. It has been a quiet couple of weeks at St GatienCottage Stables after a flurry of winners early on but things are really starting to hot up in the yard too.   We start today with SALVO who is on a retrieval mission after a couple of disappointing efforts having won her maiden at Newmarket. She looks phenomenal, and the conditions will suit so I am very positive for a big run.   Tomorrow we have got three runners, including our first two year old runner of the year. HIGH ON LOVE will kick proceedings ...

A great start

Wednesday 6th April may only have been an inauspicious day at Nottingham and Kempton, but the importance of its outcome cannot be stressed enough. I have had some huge days in my career. A Breeders Cup runner, Royal Ascot runners and plenty of graded and listed runners have all had enormous significance on my career, however bizarrely I would say that Wednesday was up there with the most important. This is a big year for everyone at St Gatien Cottage Stables, and yesterday confirmed what I had been suspicious of for a while, and that is that we have got a very nice group of horses.   First up...

It’s definitely hotting up

With the season just around the corner, excitement around the yard is starting to grow and the older horses have started to do their first pieces of serious work. This morning we ventured over to the grass by Newmarket’s Rowley mile racecourse, and six of my most forward horses stretched their legs. The first group of three contained two new recruits and an old friend. CLASSICAL ROSE, winner of two races last year, joined ZAIN EMPEROR and BAADI, in breezing over six furlongs. All three showed plenty of zip and joined up perfectly to produce a really pleasing piece of work all round. The seco...

Quiet Times ....

Things have gone pretty quiet at St Gatien Cottage stables recently with no runners for a couple of weeks now. I decided to give BUCKLAND BEAU a little break having had a very busy November and December, but he is due to do his first piece of work this week and I am hoping to run him in the next fortnight. Another horse on its way back after a break is CAROLINAE who has so far been disappointing on the track. She travelled beautifully at Southwell last time out, but then fell in a heap entering the final two furlongs. She was a shade keen that day so I have put a hood on her and hope that some...
